We have a tree on campus that was germinated from seeds that
flew to the moon. Read about our Moon
Tree and refresh your memories about one of our most significant
scientific achievements of the 20th Century.

UNIVERSITY
DAY
Each May the Campus and Grounds Team works in tandem with
a student committee to have a University
Day. Over 1,000 volunteers, including students,
faculty, and staff, spend a day improving and beautifying
the campus
grounds. This years special project is the new terrace, the
Heart
of Campus, near Friendly Hall.

CAMPUS
ARBORETUM
A certified Arborist, John Anthony,
is on staff to maintain the health of the campus arboretum of
nearly 4,000 trees, including a Douglas Fir that was germinated
during an Apollo moon mission, a rare Dawn Redwood from Szechuan,
China, and many memorial trees. A complete inventory of the
University tree collection "University of Oregon Atlas of Trees"
is available from the UO
Bookstore and at several of the U
of O Libraries.(Check the card
catalog for availability)
See our Tree Care Program for information
about our tree maintenance policy, philosophy and goals.

TREE
MAPPING AND TRACKING
In concert with the arborist's efforts, Jane
Brubaker, our Landscape Designer and color spot coordinator,
maintains a database of all of the trees on campus, including
information on when they were planted, some of their physical
dimensions, and who donated them. In the near future, with
the
help of the InfoGraphics
Department, we hope to have the entire database and map
file published for all to see and appreciate. You'll be able
to find out what species of tree that is outside your
office or classroom by
searching
the maps and databases.
