Plant and Tunnel Tour Policy
The Central Power Station recognizes its educational and general
interest to the University of Oregon and surrounding communities.
Facilities Services maintains a practice of allowing educational and
professional courtesy tours of the facility. These tours are free
of charge between the hours of 8:00AM and 3:00PM during the regular
business week. Tours may be arranged outside of these hours at
the
customer’s expense. All tours must be arranged in advance.
In an effort to maintain security, the following procedures must be
followed before and during a tour of the Central Power Station:
- The Director of Campus Operations, the Facilities Services
Business Manager, or the Central Power Station Maintenance Manager must
approve all tours. To obtain approval, submit in writing or
e-mail:
- Purpose of Tour
- Tour Leader’s Name, Address, Phone, and E-Mail Address
- Expected Number in Tour Group
- Other Pertinent Qualifying Information
- Upon approval, a Central Power Station representative will
contact the tour leader to arrange the tour.
- In general, tours will be restricted to the main floor,
control room and conference room, unless there are specific requests
that require viewing other areas of the plant. These requests
must be approved by the Director of Campus Operations, the Facilities
Services Business Manager, or the Central Power Station Maintenance
Manager.
- Tours of the tunnel system will be made in accordance with
the University of Oregon Tunnel Entry Policy. Each person
entering the tunnel system must read and sign a Tunnel Entry Briefing
prior to entry. Each tour group must be accompanied by at least
two Central Power Station staff members.
- Tours will generally be limited to seven people.
However, special arrangements can be made for larger groups with the
approval of the Director of Campus Operations, the Facilities Services
Business Manager, or the Central Power Station Maintenance Manager.
- Prior to the scheduled tour date, the tour leader shall
provide a list of tour members to the Central Power Station.
- Children under the age of 18 are not permitted in the
Central Power Station.
- Tour members are not allowed to carry unchecked bags of any
size into the plant without prior approval of the Director of Campus
Operations, the Facilities Services Business Manager or the Central
Power Station Maintenance Manager. This includes briefcases,
backpacks, book bags, etc.
- Cameras are prohibited in the Central Power Station and the
tunnel system. If pictures are needed for instructional purposes,
Central Power Station staff will work with instructors to provide
appropriate materials.
- All tour leaders and members must bring picture
identification (e.g. Student ID or Driver License).
- During the tour, all participants must wear “Visitor”
identification badges and display them per standard plant operations
policy. Badges must be returned before leaving the plant.
- All tour members must observe all Central Power Station
safety policies at all times (e.g. hearing protection, hard hats, etc.)
