Installed in February 1994, Boiler #1 supplies steam to campus for use in research and heating.  This steam may also be used to drive turbine generators which generate electricty for use on campus.  Boiler #1 primarily operates during the summer months meeting campus demand for steam.  Additionally, this boiler may be used when Boiler #4 is taken out of service for maintenance or repair.  It may also provide steam in addition to that generated by Boiler #4 during periods of peak demand.
